Obituary

Jay William Whipple, 52, of Gales Ferry passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2014. He was born January 20, 1962 in New London, the son of Stanley and Mildred (Saunders) Whipple.

He graduated from Ledyard High School in 1980 and worked as a greenhouse attendant at Alice Acres in Gales Ferry. He was a volunteer member of the Gales Ferry Fire Department for many years.

Jay had a love of the outdoors; gardening, hobby farming, hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter Rachel Whipple, his companion Wanda Churchill and stepchildren Randy and Allison Churchill of Gales Ferry He is also survived by his siblings Susan (Gary) Traphagen of Uncasville, James Whipple of Gales Ferry, David (Ruth) Whipple of North Carolina, Robert (Jody) Whipple of North Stonington and Lee (Shawn) Whipple of Lebanon, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jay’s family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 1, from 4:00-7:00pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Funeral Service will be conducted on Wednesday at 11:00am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Gales Ferry Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to an educational fund for his daughter made payable to Rachel Whipple Education Fund at any branch of Chelsea Groton Bank or mailed to 1319 Gold Star Hwy, Groton CT 06340.
