Galliano,SR, Louis Anthony, 81, of Louisville, KY, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014.
"Lou" was the son of Italian immigrants, born and raised in Greenwich Village in Manhattan. In his youth, he was an altar boy and his religious faith sustained him throughout his life. At the age of 18, he met and married his wife, Antoinette to whom he was married for 63 years. Soon after his marriage he joined the Air Force and served as a cryptographer in France. When he returned, he entered the printing field, eventually becoming the superintendent for Westbury Press in New York/New Jersey. He retired in 1986 and moved to Florida. There he earned the President's award for his healthy lifestyle which included competitive racquet ball. He might have won the 50 year-old and over doubles tournament but his team was forced to withdraw when his partner broke his (own) prosthetic foot. He took a part-time job at a car rental agency and became a local personality known as "Lou in the booth", because of his calls to a talk radio station to offer his opinions on sports and life in general. He volunteered for the Special Olympics and always felt it a privilege to witness the heart and joy and love of life in these, to him, very special participants.
Lou was known for his sense of humor, hard work, integrity, and caring nature. He understood what it was like to struggle through life's challenges and he was always willing to give others a hand-up. He had an almost unique ability to bond with people and would inspire great admiration from those who had just met him. However, his greatest joy came from his family; the simple joys of spending time with his beloved wife Antoinette, his children and his grandchildren. He helped two generations learn how to roller skate, ride bicycles, swim, play sports, paint rooms, and move to college campuses. His family will forever be grateful for his unwavering love which provided the support and encouragement to reach for their own dreams.
He is survived by his wife, Antoinette (Altomonte) Galliano; his children, Deborah Richmond (Dr. Kenneth Richmond) and Louis Galliano, Jr.; grandchildren, Sara Logsdon (Mick), Rebecca Richmond, and Leah Richmond; great- grandchildren, Alexander Michael Logsdon and Samuel Louis Logsdon; and step-brother, John Ross
His service will be Monday 10AM at Owen Funeral Home-Jeffersontown in Louisville, KY, with burial in Lebanon National Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5pm Sunday at the funeral home.
