CHICOPEE – Francis P. Marley, Jr., 76, of the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, June 19, 2014. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on January 11, 1938, a beloved son of the late Francis P. and Avellina (Boyle) Marley. He was raised in Pennsylvania and moved to Chicopee in 1970. He served his country in the United States Air Force and attained the rank of Airman Second Class. He was employed for 42 years as a machine operator at the Smurfit Stone Container Corporation in Springfield. He was a longtime Nascar official at the Riverside Speedway in Agawam and a member of the Friday Night Fighters Bowling League at the Springfield Plaza. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend of over 38 years, Sandra C. (Grenier) Marley who was Called Home on August 11, 2009. He leaves his loving niece, Jessica D. Rene and her partner, A.J. Reome, of Palmer; his cherished grandnieces, Alexis and Adysen Reome; his brother, John Marley and his wife, Judy, of Clay, NY; and his longtime friend, Donald L. Hamm and his wife, Arleen, of Chicopee. His funeral will be held on Tuesday morning, July 1, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), (funeral home will open at 8 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01104. His Committal Service with US Air Force Military Honors will follow the Mass at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday June 30, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, (Specify Springfield), Springfield, MA 01104.
