Hevey, John Joseph 68, of Marshfield passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on June 21, 2014 after a short illness at Beth Israel South in Plymouth, MA.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Jan Hevey, his two sons, Erin Hevey of Marshfield and Brett Hevey of Halifax, his daughters, Kristen Abbott and her husband Rick of Holbrook, MA, Cheryl Stibel and her husband Jeffrey of Malibu, CA, Christine Lapointe of Oxnard, CA and Michelle Lapointe of Oxnard, CA, his sister Patricia Doyle of Scituate, four grandchildren, Cecelia Abbott, Delilah Abbott, Lincoln Stibel, and Dennett Stibel, several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael J. Hevey, and his parents, Frieda and Joseph Hevey formally of Cohasset.
John was born in Boston and grew up in Cohasset, MA. After graduating from Cohasset High School, he served in the United States Navy. He joined the Marshfield Fire Department in 1972 and rose to the rank of Lt., working with men who became his lifelong friends, and retiring in 1991. John continued his education in Fire Science at Cape Cod Community College while on the Marshfield Fire Department. His second love was lobster fishing out of his boat, Heart’s Desire, in Cohasset Harbor. After retiring he also helped out in the Marshfield Public Schools as a substitute custodian. John was known for kind, quiet manner and gentle spirit. He loved his family, his friends, the ocean, rescuing animals, sitting in the backyard watching nature, listening to country music, taking drives by the beach every day just to check the water conditions, and spending time with his dog, Laci.
Visiting hours will be held in the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Rte. 139 in Marshfield on Sunday, June 29 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Funeral Service will be at 3:00 pm following the visiting hours
