Obituary

EDITH LUCILLE (POOLE) WILLOUGHBY, 88, of Louisville, KY. died of heart failure, Sunday, June 22, 2014 at the Forum at Brookside. Lucille was born January 28, 1926 in Guston, KY. to George W. Poole and Louberta Bishop Poole. She grew up in Breckinridge County, KY. and moved to Louisville during World War II. She graduated from Bryant and Stratton Business School and worked at the Presbyterian Seminary. She met her husband at Walnut Street Baptist Church and they married April 14, 1951. Lucille raised three children and was the secretary at Beechland Baptist Church for over 25 years. She was a great cook and a family legend for her jam, red velvet and fresh coconut cakes. Lucille was a woman of great faith in God. A friend once said that she saved her life with her prayers and her church prayer chain.


























She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John D. Willoughby, who died September 28, 1978 and her son-in-law Stephen W. Nay. Also by four brothers, Franklin Poole, C. B. Poole, George Poole and Donald Poole; and two sisters, Hazel Poole and Christine Robinson. She is survived by one son, Mark D. Willoughby (Jane) of Louisville; two daughters, Julia K. Willoughby of Madison, IN and Mary W. Jackson (James) of Louisville; four grandchildren, Megan Willoughby O’Bryan (Heather), Kaelyn W. Macke (Shad), John W. Jackson and Luke M. Jackson; one brother, Harold Poole of Spavinaw, OK.; and one sister, Bonnie Smith of Radcliff, KY; 17 nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway with burial in Bethany Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, and after 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Expressions of sympathy may be made to her Church.
