Obituary


Middleboro – Carl F. Peterson, Jr. 91 of Middleboro, formerly of Whitman, passed away Wednesday June 18, soon after the death of his brother Robert. He was the husband of Grace (Murchie) Peterson, and son of the late Carl F. and Esther (Lindberg) Peterson.

Born in Brockton, Mr. Peterson had lived in Whitman for 62 years. He served the US Navy in WWII and Korea. He was a member of the Puritan Masonic Lodge, the American Legion and the VFW Post 697 all of Whitman.

In early years he worked in Whitman as an auto body specialist and a dealer of used cars and heavy equipment. He then became an insurance claim specialist and after many years he retired from Firemen’s Fund Insurance Co., after which he and his wife Grace often wintered in DeLand, FL. Since 2009 they have resided with their daughters in East Bridgewater and Middleboro.

Mr. Peterson had a passion for antique cars, and for many years he could be seen cruising around Plymouth County in his 1933 REO Flying Cloud. He was a member of the REO Club of America, the South Shore Antique Auto Club and the Wheels of Time.

He leaves his wife Grace, his sister Meredith Gould, his daughter Cindy Lyman and her husband Bill Hanson, his daughter Carla Turner and her husband Bill, his son Carl F. Peterson III, grandchildren Laura and Chris Turner, Jessie and Sarah Peterson, Charissa Wade and two great grandchildren Shayla Brown and Naiya Wade all from the South Shore.

Visiting hours for Carl will be held Friday June 27 from 6-8 PM with a Masonic Service at 7 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A funeral service for Robert & Carl will be held Saturday June 28 at 11 AM with visiting hours prior to the service from 10-11 AM.
