Obituary


Robert W. Roan age 89 of Mashpee, died Thursday June 19, 2014 at the Cape Heritage Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Sandwich after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Margaret K. “Pegge” (McKiernan) Roan for 70 years. Bob was born and raised in Brockton, a son of the late Frank and Margaret (Weeks) Roan and was a 1942 graduate of Brockton High School where he played on the football team. He had lived in Brockton for many years before moving to N. Falmouth in 1974. In recent years he had resided in Mashpee.

Bob enlisted in the US Navy after graduation and served in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Darby.
For over 21 years he had worked for the Steamship Authority in Woods Hole and was the former proprietor of the South Shore Shoe Outlet in Hanover. In his free time, Bob enjoyed golf, playing cards and watching all sports. When his sons were young he coached midget football in Brockton


Bob was the father of Kathryn Wemett of E. Falmouth, Steve Roan and his wife Anne of Brockton, Paul Roan of Brockton and the late Mark Roan. He leaves 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Franny Roan, who was killed in action during WWII and Dave Roan.

A Funeral Service will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123) Brockton Wednesday at 10:30 am preceded by visitation 9-10:30 am. Burial in the Mass National Cemetery, in Bourne at 12:45pm.
