Maria Socorro Valencia passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on June 18, 2014.
She was born in Pegueros, Jalisco, Mexico in 1937, and moved to California in 1960. In 1962, she married George “Duke” Valencia, and together they moved to Ojai, California to start their family.
Her husband, Duke, preceded her in death in 1987. She is survived by her beloved children Aina, Sam, Ray Victor, and Lorena, her beloved children-in law Kevin and Diane, and her adoring grandchildren Nicholas, Christopher, Mia, Cruz, and Lucas.
Socorro’s long and beautiful life was dedicated to her family, a family that was not limited to include just her own children but to the countless people who got to know her and experience her warmth, compassion, and who called her Mom. Her sense of humor and open home policy always made people feel welcomed, loved, and appreciated even until the last day of her life.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Community Memorial Hospital for their dedicated care of our mother. Also the family is grateful to Livingston Memorial Hospice of Ventura for the compassionate, caring support that they have shown for the past several weeks. Their kindness is appreciated beyond words.
Family and friends are cordially invited to the Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated on Saturday June 28, 2014 at 9AM in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 185 St. Thomas Drive, Ojai. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will precede the Mass beginning at 8:30am. Immediately following Mass there will be a reception in the parish Aquinas Center and Interment will follow at 2pm in Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura. The FAMILY OWNED & AWARD WINNING, JOSEPH P.
