John T. “J.T.” Sellars, 79, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, June 20, 2014, at Life Care Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Sunday, June 22, 2014 at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Sellars was born June 1, 1935, in Coffee County, Georgia, to the late John T. and Dora King Sellars. J.T. worked as a route salesman and later as supervisor for Kimball Dairy and Flavor Rich Dairies. In 1977, he began working for Lance, Inc. as the “Cracker Man”. He retired from Lance in 1997. He was recognized as Salesman of the Year many times. In 2000, he started working part time at the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Department, until his sickness in 2013. He cherished the friendships and memories that were made at the department. He served 20 years and retired from the Georgia National Guard. He loved fishing and bird hunting. On bird hunting days, seldom did he and his friends Carroll and Jack come home without each having the limit….and a few more. J. T. became a Christian in 1954 at New Prospect Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher, Superintendent, Training Union Director, RA Leader, Youth department teacher and he also served on several committees. He loved the Lord, his family and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Bonita T. Sellars of Fitzgerald; two sons and daughters-in-law: Craig & Dottie Sellars and Jim & Amy Sellars, all of Fitzgerald; two grandchildren: Emma and Jake; a sister-in-law: Rachel Tomberlin of Fitzgerald; one sister: Norma Jean & Mike Buczkowske of Kingsport, Tennessee; and a brother: Frank & Sharron Sellars of Fuqua, North Carolina. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Clark and Ossie Tomberlin and a brother-in-law: Mayhue Tomberlin.
