Obituary

SALEM - Emile J. LaPointe, Jr., 82, of Lynn, formerly of Salem, husband of the late Claudia M. (Michalowski) LaPointe, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Salem Hospital with his family at his side.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Emile J. and Diana M. (St. Pierre) LaPointe Sr. and was a resident of Salem for most of his life.

An Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served in Korea and attained the rank of Corporal. He was a member and past Chaplain of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post #55, a life member of the VFW, Witch City Post #1524, both of Salem, and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Veragua Council, #76 of Salem.

He worked as a mechanic for the New England Telephone Company for 32 years until his retirement in 1989.

Emile loved spending time with his family and friends, in recent years could often be found walking in the North Shore Mall. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, billiards and most recently participated in several dart leagues. Emile enjoyed life and had an infectious sense of humor.

He is survived by his children, Tsgt. Richard LaPointe (USAF-Ret.) & Amanda LaPointe of Salem, Alan & Gail LaPointe of Groveland, David & Linda LaPointe of Waltham, Thomas LaPointe of Salem, Mary-Ann & Joseph Grocki of Smithfield, VA, Lauri-Ann & Daniel Brewer, Sr. of Lynn, 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. One of 13 children, he leaves siblings, Lorraine Altobelli of Rochester, NH, Barbara and her husband Charles Lord of Rochester, NH, , Henry and his wife Rita LaPointe of Zephyrhills, FL, Carol Julien of Lynn, Sandra and her husband William Santos of Peabody.

His funeral service will be held Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 9 AM from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 AM at the St. John the Baptist Church, Salem. Visiting hours are Friday, 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial is in St. Mary Cemetery, Salem.
