Obituary

DIGHTON - Joseph Lawrence, husband of Edith M. (Adams) Lawrence of Dighton, died at Marian Manor in Taunton on June 16, 2014.
He was 78.
Born in Dighton, and a lifelong resident of the area, he was the son of the late Manuel S. and Maria J. (Netto) Lourenco.
A 1953 graduate of Taunton High School, Mr. Lawrence received a BA in Business Administration from Northeastern University and later served in the Army National Guard.
He owned and operated Royal Builders from 1959 to 2004.
Active in Dighton affairs, Joe served on the Planning Board, the Board of Appeals, the Water Commission and the Council on Aging.
He served as Building Inspector for the towns of Dighton, Somerset and Berkley and was a Rehoboth Fair Director.
An avid sports fan, Joe enjoyed hockey, football, bowling, stock car racing, and baseball; and coached little league.
He enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Joseph M. Lawrence and his wife Robin, and Gregory Logan and his wife Rhonda, all of Dighton; a daughter, Barbara M. Lawrence of Taunton; five grandchildren, James Logan of Taunton, Ava and Elise Lawrence, both of Dighton, Molly Motes of Dighton, and Roderick Motes of Dallas, TX.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Friday, June 20th at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Nicholas of Myra Church, North Dighton at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, June 19th from 5 to 8 p.m.
