Obituary

Mildred “Millie” (Savoie) Tellier, RN passed from this life at the age of 88 on June 15, 2014, after a long illness, surrounded by her husband Robert, of 63 years and family. She was born in Manville, a daughter of the late Joseph and Regia (Guilbault) Savoie, and lived most of her life in Woonsocket. Millie graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1945 and entered the Navy Nurse Cadet Program at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA where she received her registered nurse diploma in 1948. Millie worked at the Woonsocket Hospital for over thirty years where she cared for many patients with compassion and skill. She was also a Staff Educator and mentored many nurses who carry on her legacy. She inspired many in her family to enter the nursing profession which we proudly call a “nursing dynasty”.
She was a wonderful mother to Janine Reale and her husband Thomas of Chelmsford, MA, Bruce Tellier of Playa Del Rey, CA, Anne-Marie Bibeault and her husband Arthur, of N. Smithfield, and the late R. Kenneth Tellier; loving memere/grandma to Trina Lavoie, and her husband Brendan, Catherine, Christine and TJ Reale, and Melissa and Adam Bibeault; and great-grandmother to Ava and Jake Lavoie. She was very close to her brother Albert Savoie and his wife Connie, sisters and best friends to Jacqueline Cournoyer and Patricia Benoit and her husband George. She is also survived by in-laws, Sue and Gil Bouffard, Rene Tellier, Ben and Gloria Tellier, Rachel and Don Clark, and many nieces and nephews who lovingly called her “matante”. Millie’s beautiful spirit will live on in everyone who knew and loved her.
Her funeral will be held Friday at 9:30 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph’s Church, Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Slatersville. Visiting hours are Thursday 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Ann Arts and Cultural Center, 84 Cumberland St. Woonsocket, RI 02895, where Millie was married and was the model for the fresco painting “The Child Virgin Mary” in the center panel of the vaulted sanctuary, in her memory would be appreciated.
