Obituary

LAMIR William John on Sunday, June 15, 2014, William J. Lamir, Sr., age 93 and a life-long resident of Boston, died peacefully, surrounded by family in Darnestown, Maryland. Born in Boston, Mr. Lamir grew up in Roslindale. During World War II, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served along with his three brothers, Edward, George and Peter. In September 1947, he married Kathleen Marie (“Katie”) McCauley. A professional bricklayer by trade, he worked on many landmark buildings throughout the City of Boston. He and his wife resided on Hastings St. in West Roxbury for 46 years where they also were members of the West Roxbury Art Association. Mr. Lamir was a loving husband and father to six children, and has been a devoted grandfather to ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Affectionately known as "Bill" to his family and friends, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Kathleen. He is survived by five of his six children, Patricia A. Lamir of New South Wales, Australia, William J. Lamir, Jr. of Darnestown, Maryland, Stephen A. Lamir of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Francis J. Lamir of Ashburn, Virginia, and Joseph E. Lamir of Atlanta, Georgia; ten grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Mr. Lamir’s first child, Kathleen M. (“Kitty”) Lamir, died when she was twelve.

Funeral from the P.E. Murray-F.J. Higgins, George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 2000 Centre St., West Roxbury Friday June 20th at 9am. Funeral Mass in St. Theresa of Avila Church, West Roxbury at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Thursday June 19th from 4-8pm. Interment New Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan.
