Obituary

James J. “Jimmy” Wiley, Jr., 81, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Friday, June 13, 2014, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Monday, June 16, 2014, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Chuck Taylor, the Rev. Sonny Pate, and Elder Edward McIntyre officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Wiley was born December 24, 1932 in Fitzgerald, Georgia, to the late James Joseph “Joe”, Sr. & Glennie Taylor Wiley. He lived in the community all of his life. A long-time farmer, Mr. Wiley won awards for his peanut yields and was Soil Conservationist of the Year. He was a director for FSA, formerly ASCS, a director of the former Production Credit Association and an original stockholder of The Bank of Fitzgerald, now Colony Bank. Mr. Wiley was a founding trustee of Irwin Academy and a member of Woodmen of the World. A long-time member of Englewood Baptist Church, he was an honorary deacon, a trustee, and a member of the building and cemetery committees.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years: Christine Harper Wiley of Irwin; children and their spouses: Carolyn W. & Edgar Bellamy, James & Donna Wiley, and Tina Baldwin, all of Irwin County; a son-in-law: Ronny & Clarice Aycock of Fitzgerald; seven grandchildren: Jason Youmans, Amanda & Michael Owens, Allen Baldwin, Deidre Baldwin, Berry Aycock, Doug Aycock, and Parker Wiley; four great-grandchildren: Isabella Roberts, Michael Paul Owens, Logan Roberts, and Kaleb Roberts; and a sister: Edwina W. Wynn of Fitzgerald. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Vicki Aycock; a grandson: Ron Aycock, Jr.; a sister: Montyne Roberson; and a brother: Bobby E. Wiley.
