Sandra Macleod Tonkin Lockwood passed away Nov. 8, at home.
Born April 8, 1940 in Thurso, Scotland, she came to this country as a teenager. She graduated from North High School and received an academic scholarship to the University of Michigan where she received a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She later attained graduate degrees from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. and the University of Missouri in Kansas City. She held several teaching positions and maintained a small private practice in counseling. She was an avid horsewoman. She was a lifetime member of the United States Equestrian Association, the United States Eventing Association, the Mid-American Combined Training Association, and the Kansas City Dressage Association. She also served as a Combined Training and Dressage Judge. She was predeceased in death by her father, Dr. Kenneth Macleod, mother Jean Macleod, brother, Iain Macleod, sister Fiona Macleod Post, and ex-husband Dr. Joel Tonkin. Survivors include her daughter Laura Tonkin-Buhrer, son-in-law, Bradley Buhrer, grandchildren Cameron and Kyle Buhrer, sister, Dr. Deirdre Loughlin, brother-in-law, Dr. Raymond Loughlin, nieces and nephews; Deirdre Gearhardt, Siobhan Petrella, Raymond Loughlin Kimberly Macleod, Piper Macleod, and Iain Macleod.
Services will be held at a later date in Boston, MA and Edinburgh, Scotland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to, the Goddard Memorial Association, PO Box 20126, Worcester, MA 01602. FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 9 Hammond St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
