Margaret Ellen Wardle, 84, of Mystic passed away at home on June 10, 2014 after a long illness. "Peggy" was born on April 30, 1930 in New London CT to William Edward Lewis and Ellen Watson Lewis. She lived most of her life in Mystic. Peggy graduated as valedictorian from Stonington High School in 1947. She was a salutatorian of her class of 1951 from the University of Connecticut where she was a sister in Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. Peggy taught elementary school in Fairfield, CT and Groton, CT until 1958.
In 1958 Peggy married William F. Wardle and started a family. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years and by her son David L. Wardle. She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie E. Wardle and a son John D. Wardle, her brother Bill Lewis and his wife Kathe, and her nephew and his wife and daughter Billy, Dee-Dee, and Narisara Lewis, all of Mystic, CT.
Peggy loved to travel and visited all 50 states. She made friends from all over the world on her many cruises.
A Graveside Service will be conducted on Friday, June 13, at 11:00am at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Care of Southeastern CT, 227 Dunham Street, Norwich CT 06360, would honor her memory.
She will greatly missed by her family and friends.
