Robert S. Twitchell, age 84, of Norton, formerly of Attleboro and Roslindale passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Epoch Senor Healthcare in Norton. He was the beloved husband of the late Helen E. (Foley) Twitchell who died in 1981.
Born in Dedham, MA on August 28, 1929, he was a devoted son of the late Howard and Elsie (Boynton) Twitchell.
Bob grew up in Dedham and later moved to Roslindale. He was a graduate of Roslindale High School and furthered his education to become a graduate of the Franklin Institute of Technology.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Twitchell had worked for 25 years as an Electrical Engineer at Raytheon. The majority of his career was spent at the companies Wayland plant, and he retired in 1993.
A resident of Norton for the past 10 years, Bob’s greatest pride was his family. He loved being a grandfather to his adoring grandchildren and to so many other children, who thought of him as the same. Bob also enjoyed the company of his faithful pal “Sam”.
Bob was as an avid New England sports fan, his favorite team to follow being the Patriots. When younger, in the 1940’s, he had served as a “Gallery God” at the former Boston Gardens.
He is survived by his loving son Robert J. Twitchell, Sr., BPD and his wife Kathleen of Norton. He was the dear brother of the late Howard Twitchell, Marion Mackie and Albert Twitchell. He was the cherished grandfather of Katherine Twitchell, Robert Twitchell, Jr., RISP, Michael Twitchell and Colleen Twitchell. He is also survived by his brothers and sister- in-law; Francis Foley, Claire Foley and Robert Foley, as well as several nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday, June 14th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 13th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Robert’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Cancer Society, 931 Jefferson Blvd, Warwick, RI 02886.
