Obituary

CHICOPEE – Marguerite M. “Maggie” Geoffroy, 90, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, June 9, 2014. She passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born at home in the Aldenville section of Chicopee on Independence Day, July 4, 1923, a beloved daughter of the late Arthur T. and Maria (Lussier) Geoffroy. She was raised in Aldenville, attended Saint Joan of Arc Grammar School and was a lifelong resident of Aldenville. She was a well known Interior Decorator in the Chicopee area. She was employed by the former Stearns Upholstery and the former Balakier’s Department Store, both in Chicopee. She was the owner and operator for many years of Marguerite Geoffroy Custom Made Slipcovers and Draperies in Chicopee. During her younger years, she enjoyed playing the guitar and was a well known yodeler. She also enjoyed meeting up with her many friends for a good game of bingo and cards. Most of all, she was a wonderful sister, aunt, family woman and friend. She took care of her nieces and nephews and was always a strong support for her entire family whom she cherished. She leaves her loving sister, Rita M. Plouffe of Chicopee; her two loving sisters-in-law, Estelle Geoffroy of Chicopee and Jane Geoffroy Phenney of Florida; her three devoted grandnieces who were her caregivers, Donna J. Polwrek, Susan M. Kurpaska and Catherine A. Grenier; and her many cherished nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces and extended members of the Geoffroy family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving brothers and sisters, Victor, Telesphore, Roland, Alfred and Napoleon “Paul” Geoffroy, Robert Gelineau, Theresa Geoffroy and Germaine Rakouskas. In addition, she was predeceased by her longtime friend, Rita P. Newman who was Called Home on May 2, 2011. Her funeral will be held on Friday morning, June 13, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint Joan of Arc School Fund, 587 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
