Obituary

Philippe Bastille of New Bedford, MA died May 29, 2014 at home.
He was the husband of Pauline (Marcoux) Bastille with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Born in Meriden, CT, he was the son of the late Fenelon and Blanche Bastille. Upon graduating from St. Anthony High School in 1947, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served 4 years aboard the destroyers U.S.S. Hank (DD-702) and U.S.S. Fred T. Berry (DD/DDE-858) as a radarman in the combat information center. He was the recipient of the Navy Occupation Service Medal with Europe and Asia clasp, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon. After his military service, he graduated from the New England Institute of Anatomy & Sanitary Sciences in Boston. He also earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from Bryant University.
His entire working career was with United States Gypsum Co. as a manufacture's sales representative in the Northeast Marketing Unit. In 1994, he retired with 31 years with the company.
Survivors include his widow; a son, Michael Bastille and his wife Regina of Dedham, MA; a daughter, Donna (Bastille) Karalekas of New Bedford; 3 grandsons, David Karalekas, Matthew Karalekas and his wife Cindy and John Bastille; a great-granddaughter, Jenna Karalekas; a sister, Therese Fredette of South Yarmouth, MA.
His funeral and burial were private at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
