Obituary

J. Normand Dagesse, 88, of North Smithfield died Saturday at home. He was the devoted husband of the late Beatrice V. (Caron) Dagesse. They were married for 54 years at the time of her passing in 2008.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Pierre and Dora (Brodeur) Dagesse. He was raised in Woonsocket and received part of his education in Canada.
Mr. Dagesse served in the United States Navy during WWII as an interpreter and also aboard the USS Missouri.
He later went to work for the Merchant Marine and as an engineer for Mobil Oil Corporation.
Normand was a member of the Woonsocket B.P.O. E Lodge 850 and the Franco-American Association. During his retirement years he enjoyed working amongst family and friends at the Woonsocket Generator.
Normand loved music and travel. He combined these two passions in his latest adventure to Nashville just a month before his recent illness.
Normand will be remembered for his love and devotion to his family.
He is survived by a son Robert Dagesse and his wife, Linda, of Cumberland, two grandchildren Andrew and Arielle Dagesse both of Cumberland. He was the brother of Sr. Anita Dagesse P.M. of Methuen, MA. and the father-in-law of Cliff Richards of Maine. He was the father of the late Gerald Dagesse, grandfather of the late AnneMarie Dagesse and brother of the late Richard and John Dagesse, Sr. Aline Dagesse P.M., and Madeleine Joubert. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10:00 am in St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Rd. Cumberland. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
