Obituary

Jeffrey J. Lawrence, 66, of New Bedford died June 3, 2014 at Hathaway Manor after a long illness.
He was the husband of Nancy C. (Barker) Lawrence.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Antonio J. and Anastasia D. (Dubac) Lawrence, he was raised in Dartmouth and lived in New Bedford most of his life.
Mr. Lawrence was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church.
He was employed in many different nursing fields throughout his career including leading the school of nurse anesthesia at Tufts Medical Center in Boston where he also published pioneering research on intraoperative physiology. He had an innate fluency with science and technology, which was always appreciated by his beloved family for whom he revamped innumerable broken gadgets, cars, and fledgling science projects. He also coached the family’s children in sports, borrowing on athleticism that earned him the nickname “The Toe” at Bishop Stang High School after setting a longstanding record for field goals made.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Jay Lawrence, M.D. and his wife Stephanie Lawrence, M.D. of Worcester and Jonathan Lawrence of New Bedford; a daughter, Tara Lawrence of Dartmouth; a brother, Jay Lawrence of Georgetown, MA; and 3 grandchildren, Abigail, Joshua and Owen.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Saturday, June 7th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Friday, June 6th from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Schwartz Center for Children, 1 Posa Place, Dartmouth, MA 02747.
