Obituary

Mrs. Norma A. (Stackhouse) Whalen, a lifelong resident of Medford and beloved wife of the late John P. Whalen, Jr., died at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home in Chelsea on Monday morning, June 2, 2014. She was 88 years old.
Born in Malden, Massachusetts, on March 16, 1926, she was the beloved daughter of the late Frederick P. and Amelia (Bannon) Stackhouse. Mrs. Whalen was a Secretary for Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford for more that 30 years. In her spare time, Mrs. Whalen enjoyed knitting, quilting and visiting the ocean. She was a very independent woman her entire life. Above all, Norma was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She will be missed by her loving children; Martha A. and her husband Peter B. Grant of Melrose, Linda Whalen of Melrose, Stephen J. Whalen of Medford and Ann E. and her husband Larry Breault of Derry, New Hampshire, cherished grandchildren; Kara A. and Lauren E. Grant and Tristan J. Whalen. She was also the sister of the late Fred Stackhouse.
Her funeral will be celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Friday, June 6, 2014, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment will be held in the VA National Cemetery, Bourne.
