New Bedford – Jose Amaral, age 88 of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of 62 years to Julieta Amaral and the son of Odelia and Manuel Xavier Amaral. Mr. Amaral was born in St. Michael, Azores, moved to this country in 1967 and worked as a Landscaper at Francisco Tavares Landscaping for many years until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Julieta Amaral, of New Bedford; 9 children: Manuel Amaral and Joe Amaral, both of Dartmouth, Arthur Amaral of Lakeville, Antonio Amaral of Dartmouth, Inez Pacheco of Westport, Louise Amaral of Dartmouth, John Amaral of New Bedford, Jimmy Amaral of Dartmouth, and Lisa Amaral of New Bedford; a sister, Lidia DeMelo, of New Bedford; as well as 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Jose was predeceased by 2 siblings: Dionisio Amaral and Ines Pinaretta.
His funeral will be Thursday, June 5 beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. and continuing with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 – 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are welcomed to attend.
