Obituary

Norman H. Shaw Jr., a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life at his daughters home in Lee, New Hampshire on Friday, May 30, 2014 following an extended illness. He was 89 years old.

Norman was born in Presqueisle, Maine on October 14, 1924, a son of the late Norman H. Shaw and Clara (Corey) Shaw. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1943. Norman enlisted into the United States Army on April 6, 1943 and served his country faithfully and with courage during World War II. He was discharged on December 12, 1945 with the rank of Tec 3. Norman worked for over 25 years as a Security Officer at Draper Laboratories at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. Norman was a very active member and Deacon at The First Church in Charlestown on Green Street. He was a longtime member of Aleppo Shriners and Charity Masonic Lodge of Cambridge.

Norman is the beloved husband of 68 years to Doris M. (Sherrick) Shaw. He is the devoted father of Sandra and Allen Weagle of Searsmont, Maine, Terry and Deborah Shaw of Wynantskill, New York, David and Lori Shaw of Tyngsboro, Laura Shaw and David Jackson of Lee, New Hampshire, Ruth and James Casavant of West Warwick, Rhode Island, Paula and Dan Melaugh of Lee, New Hampshire and the late Joanne Turner, Richard Shaw, Frank Shaw and Russell Shaw. He is the loving Grandfather to 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Norman's Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 11 A.M. in The First Church in Charlestown, Congregational, 10 Green St. Charlestown. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 3 to 8 P.M. with a Masonic Service at 7:30 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown.
