Hudson, MA
Dorothy Marie (Dix) “Nana” Aud died unexpectedly after a brief illness at the Peace River Medical Center in Port Charlotte, Florida on Saturday May 24, 2014, at the age of 82. She was the daughter and only child of the late Naomi and Cale Dix and the beloved wife of the late William T. (Bill) Aud. She was born on a farm in Norris City, in Southern Illinois on April 10, 1932. For a woman raised on a farm in Southern Illinois, and married at the age of 14, she seemed to figure life out in a way that not many do. She used the work ethic she learned on the farm and the love of her grammar school classmate to propel her to the wonderful woman so many loved and cherished. The United States Air Force brought Dot and Bill to the East Coast, and it was here that they relished in the birth of their three wonderful daughters, Rose Marie, Mary Lou and Susanne. They traveled and lived on Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, and on Otis Air Force Base at Cape Cod, before finally settling in Hudson, Ma in 1955.
Dot never worked a day in her life, yet she worked harder than most ever will. She worked at being a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She worked at being kind, and she worked at knowing what made each person she met their own unique and beautiful self. Her infectious personality and stunning beauty coupled with sincerity, humility and grace would be her lifelong calling card. Her zestful exuberance for life’s simple pleasures touched everyone that was lucky enough to call her a friend. She was a citizen of the world a reflection of all that is good. She knew instinctively that loving others was the greatest gift she could give.
She is survived by her three daughters, Rose Marie Cook and her husband Frank of Gilford, NH, Mary Lou Sullivan and her husband Paul of Hudson, MA, and Susanne Tilton of Wareham, MA (and her late son-in-law Charles). She was Nana to Naomi (Sullivan) Martin and her husband Mark of Acton, MA , Jason Burns of Concord, NH, Kathrine (Sullivan) Corbett and her husband David of Hudson, MA, Heather (Cook) Lachance and her husband Adam of Gilford, NH, and Kara Atkinson of Cataumet, MA . She was a great-grandmother in name, but Nana to Tyler Martin, Lillian Burns and Molly Martin.
She is survived by her nieces Jennifer, Sharon and Janet, her nephew Jay and a myriad of friends.
Her funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from Tighe – Hamilton Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA at 9:00 am with a Celebration of her life at the First Federated Church at 200 Central Street, Hudson MA at 10:00 am.
