First Sergeant Joseph A. Anastasio age 45 formerly of Canton, passed away suddenly May 25th in Germany where he was stationed while serving in the United States Army. Born and raised in Canton, he graduated from Blue Hills Regional High School and attended Troy University. He was a mechanic by trade and enjoyed working on cars. Joseph enlisted in the Army shortly after graduating from high school and had a decorated 27 year military career. For the majority of his service he was stationed in Germany, Japan and Bosnia and also had tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. For his service to the country he was awarded 2 Bronze Stars, 2 Meritorious Service Medals, 4 Army Commendation Medals, 4 Army Achievement Medals, the Combat Action Badge, the Airborne Badge, The Iraq Service Medal and the Afghanistan Service Medal. Beloved husband of Tina M. Anastasio of Florida. Father of Joseph and Angelica Grace Anastasio of Florida. Step-father of John and Kaitlynn Orren. Loving son of Joseph A. and Dianne M. Anastasio of Canton. Brother of Cynthia Anderson and her husband Robert of Hanover, Clark Anastasio and his wife Kelly of Easton and Scott Anastasio of Canton. Uncle of Nichole Anderson of Hanover, Cheyanne and Scott Anastasio of Barre. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Sunday 4-8 pm. Funeral mass at St. Gerard Majella Church 1860 Washington St. Canton Monday morning at 10. Burial with full Military Honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton.
