Obituary

NATICK: Nicholas Amendola, age 95, a dedicated member of the Natick community, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday afternoon, May 25, 2014, at his own home in Natick. He was the loving husband of the late Wanda (Urban) Amendola. After her death, Nick married Marjorie (Gray) Amendola, who passed away in 1990.

Born in Messina, Sicily in 1919, Nick was a son of the late Leo and Rose (Fornaro) Amendola, who immigrated to Natick when he was a young boy. He was a graduate of the Natick Schools and served with the Army during World War II.

Nick returned to Natick, married Wanda and started a family, and went to work with O’Brien television and electronics repair. In 1957, he became employed with the Natick Fire Department and served for many years overseeing the town’s fire alarms. He retired as Supervisor of Communications in 1984. For decades Nick had been involved in decorating the town for holidays, whether it be festooning the Common with lights at Christmastime or hanging American flags along the town’s main streets for Memorial Day. Nick was a big fan of the Red Sox, rarely missing a game on TV whether the team played well or poorly. He also loved tending his beautiful lawn and garden. Mostly, though, he loved time spent with his family.

Father of the late Nicholas Amendola, Jr., and step-father of the late Mary-Lou Kelly, he is survived by his daughter, Virginia “Dolly” MacLeod and her husband Gary of Natick; his grandchildren, Michael Porter and his wife Debbie, Bonnie Wegner and her husband Steve, Lisa Johnson and her husband Alex, and Nikki Amendola; and great-grandchildren Nicholas, Mitchell, Sophie, Frank, Violet, Brian and David. He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Coppolino, Antonio Amendola, Jennie Amendola, and his twin, Frank Amendola.

At the request of his family, Nick’s services will be private. Donations may be made in his memory to benefit the Natick VFW Post 1274, 113 West Central Street, Natick, MA 01760.
