Boston -John D.Hawkins Jr., age 64 of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at Tufts Medical Center. He was the loving son of Anna Angelina (Britto) Hawkins and the late John D. Hawkins Sr. He was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all of his life. Mr. Hawkins was a teachers aide at New Bedford Voke, during his teen years he was Assistant Drum Major for The Verdean Vets Drum-Bugle Corps Golden Clovers
He is survived by his daughter Sandra Soares Wright of New Bedford, his grandson Derre Benton and Johns long time companion Darlene Simmons.
AT THE CONVENIENCE OF THE FAMILY - SERVICES FOR JOHN D. HAWKINS, JR. HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO SUNDAY, JUNE 8 WITH CALLING HOURS FROM 2- 6 P.M. A RELIGIOUS SERVICE WILL BE HELD IN THE FUNERAL HOME ON MONDAY, JUNE 9 AT 12:00 P.M. FOLLOWED BY HIS BURIAL IN RURAL CEMETERY.
