Charles W. Knuckles, 72, of New Bedford died May 27, 2014 at home after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was the husband of Yvonne J. (Turner) Burgo.
Born in Spartanburg, SC, the son of the late Edward and Helen (Foster) Knuckles, he was raised in Allentown, PA before moving to New Bedford 50 years ago.
He enjoyed playing sports in his youth, going to the YMCA and watching his grandchildren's games. Mr. Knuckles served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dale Burgo and his wife Lorena of New Bedford; 8 grandchildren, including Cherele Burgo, Djay Burgo and Kendyn Costa; and 2 aunts, Daisy Pitts and Marva Rose, both of Allentown, PA.
He was the father of the late Dana Burgo and Charlie "Boo" Costa and the brother of the late Harold "Dean" Knuckles.
His visiting hours will be on Friday, May 30th from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford with a prayer service at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Veteran's Transition House, 20 Willis St. New Bedford, MA 02740.
