Hortense (Barbosa) Tavares, age 91 of Somerset, passed away on May 26, 2014. Born in Fenais da Ajuda, São Miguel, Açores, she was the wife of the late Silvano Botelho Tavares, and the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria Amelia (Mello) Barbosa. Prior to retiring, Hortense worked for the former Rhondo Sportswear Mfg. as a stitcher. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, & gardening.
She is survived by her 2 sons: Victor M.B. Tavares, wife Manuela and Lee J. Tavares, all of Somerset; grandchildren: Sophia, Cassandra, Nathan, Tiffany, & Garett; great grandchildren: Hayden, Lucy, Susannah, Hope, & Camden; many nieces & nephews. She was the mother of the late Laudalino Tavares and the sister of the late Maria Barbosa Correia, Manny Barbosa, & Antonio Barbosa.
Her funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC 1521 N. Main St., Fall River on FRIDAY at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in St. Michael’s Church. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset.
