Obituary

Donovan, James “Jim” C. 74 of Marshfield May 23, 2014. After a long valiant battle with Alzheimer’s and Skin Cancer. Beloved husband of Sheila (Shea) Donovan. Dear Poppi of the late Robert J. Shea. Grandfather of Daniel Ryan Shea of Whitman. Son of Helen McLaughlin of Jamaica Plain and the late James Donovan. Brother of Edward Donovan of Marshfield, Mary Ann O’Connor and the late Paul of Westwood and Helen Lake and her husband Albert of West Roxbury. Dear brother-in-law of Joan and William Murphy of Harwich Port, Gail and Tony DiSalvo of Bernardsville, NJ., Elaine and the late Donald of Westwood and Richard and Dorothy Mulligan of Westwood. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Born in Boston Jim grew up in Jamaica Plain and was a graduate of the Class of 1962 Boston College. He served in the US Marine Corp. His career in the Insurance Industries took him many places in the United States, Canada, Europe, and even Kuwait. After his retirement Jim worked for the US Postal Service as a Temp for 5 years and then went on to work at Star Market in Marshfield. Jim was an avid supporter of the football program at Boston College being a Blue Chip member since his graduation in 1962. He was a past member of R.I.M.S (Risk Insurance Managers Society). A sincere thank you for the wonderful care and compassion given to Jim by the Nurses and Staff at “GRECC” Dementia Special Care Unit at the VA Hospital in Bedford, MA. where Jim has resided for the past 16 months. Jim enjoyed College Football, reading and spending time with family.
Visiting hours will be held at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street Rte. 139 in Marshfield on Thursday, May 29, from 4 to 8 PM. (At 7:15 friends will be given an opportunity to share fond memories of Jim.) Funeral from the funeral home on Friday, May 29 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Assumption Church 40 Canal St. at 11:30AM.

Interment will be held at a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA.
