Obituary

Robert Edward Leonard, 87, of Main Street, Medway, died after having a heart attack on May 25, 2014.

Mr. Leonard was born in Marlboro on April 6, 1927, a son of the late Arthur and Rosella (Ballou) Leonard, and lived in Medway since 1952.

He proudly served in the Army in WWII in the 14th and 71st Infantry Division with the rank of Sergeant with a Rifleman (745) specialty. He also led a special operations group for the Army while in Germany, that has evolved into the Army Rangers of today.

Mr. Leonard worked at Medway Block and Concrete doing Masonry work. He received an ASEE from Northeastern University and worked at Raytheon for 25+ years, first as a power supply/magnetics design engineer, and then as an Operations and Quality Manager. In his later years, he worked at Data General, Waters Corp and Medway High School.

Mr. Leonard was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church and was very religious. He enjoyed camping at Bourne Scenic Park with his family, fishing and was a hobbyist who enjoyed his home workshop for carvings, or making trains, planes and boats for his children and grand-children.

Mr. Leonard was preceded in death by his wife Marian (Doody) of 57 years, whom he cared for through her lengthy Alzheimer’s disease.

He is survived by a daughter Dorothy A. Martin and her husband Douglas of Falmouth and their sons Leonard and Edward, by son Robert E. Leonard Jr. and wife Milu of Taunton and their sons Robert III and Michael, by son James Leonard of Medway and by son Daniel Joseph Leonard and his son Robert Horst and wife Jessica and daughter Courtney Elisabeth.

He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Owen and Ayla, a sister Dottie Standing of Norfolk, a brother Stan Leonard of Rochester, NH and a sister Connie Blacke of Montrose, CA.

He was pre-deceased by a brother Arthur Leonard and sister Phyllis Jackson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) on Friday, May 30 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m.
