Walter J. Kowal, age 90, passed away on May 25, 2014 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was born on March 20, 1924 in Chicopee. He was a son of the late Joseph and Salomea (Czelog) Kowal. All of Walter’s brothers entered into the military. Walter was a WWII Navy Veteran. He served during the D-Day Normandy Invasion as a gunners mate. He later worked as a die maker for Storms and Moore Drop Forge for many years until he retired in 1989. He leaves his loving wife of 67 years, Yvette N. (Beaulieu) Kowal of Chicopee; 2 sons David Kowal of Chicopee and Robert Kowal and his wife Yong of Westfield; 1 sister, Josephine Landry of Chicopee; 3 grandchildren, Michael Kowal, Holly Hennessey and Linda Kowal; 5 great grandchildren, Kayleigh, Brandon, Hayley, Caiden and Casey. He also leaves his beloved dog Crystal. Walter was an avid Red Sox fan. He loved listening to Polka music, doing carpentry and working on things around the house. He is predeceased by his brothers, Matthew, Alfred and Stanley Kowal and also by his sisters Nellie Midura and Adele Domeracki. All services will be private for family.
