Obituary

Robert Warren Evans, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Concord Hospital, Concord, NH. Mr. Evans was born in Hillsboro, NH, on Dec. 8, 1924 a son of the late Paul B. and Marion (Gilson) Evans. He was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry, Class of 1942. On Jan. 21, 1945, he married Barbara Jean Merrill of Derry, NH. He went into the military (Navy) with several of his brothers in 1942 and served for 3 years as an engineer 1st class. After the war, he returned home to Derry and built his own house on Hillside Ave. He got a job at PSNH in Manchester, where he became assistant to the vice president and worked there for 39 years, retiring in 1987 and moved to Barnstead. He was a member of the Londonderry Presbyterian Church, a director of the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, member and chairman of the Londonderry Board of Adjustment, a member of the American Legion and VFW, and one of the founding members and director of the Londonderry Bank and Trust. He moved his family to Londonderry in the 1950s and with his wife Barbara, began running a summer camp (Twin Gate Farm) which they ran for over 20 years. He loved working on the farm and involving himself in all the operations of the farm including helping with haying well into his 80s. He was always busy with home improvement projects and kept himself in great shape. He was predeceased by 5 brothers, Paul Evans, Arthur Evans, Ronald Evans, Howard Evans and Lawrence Evans and grandson Brandon Evans.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years Barbara Evans (Merrill), his brother Wayne Evans, his daughter Linda Misiaszek, his sons Gary, Greg, Kenneth, and Troy, 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. His ancestors included Tristram Coffin, one of the original owners of Nantucket and Thomas Dudley, a founder of Harvard College and 3rd governor of Massachusetts.
A Calling hour will be held on Thursday, May 29th from 1-2 pm at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. Graveside services will follow at 2:30pm in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Mammoth Road, Londonderry.
