Obituary

David Michael Goshea, beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at home in Chicopee, MA early Wednesday morning, May 21, 2014 with his family at his side. He was 46 years old. Born and raised in Chicopee, David was a graduate of Chicopee High School and enlisted in the Massachusetts Army National Guard in 1986. In 2005, he was deployed to Iraq where he continued to serve his country. Sgt. Goshea was the recipient of numerous awards for his service; notably Army Achievement Medal (4th Award), National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. David retired from the military in 2007. He worked as a machinist for Smith and Wesson for several years and then went on to graduate from the Allstate Institute of Technology to become an electrician where he worked for Commercial Electric, EMCI, and Cebula Electronics Corp. He was most recently employed with Wel-Design Alarm Systems Inc., as a systems technician programmer, analyst and trouble shooter. David was a lover of life. He spent a great deal of time reading history, biographies, and journals. In his spare time he could be found using his most current and up to date electronic devices, deep sea fishing, golfing, snow skiing, camping, shooting darts, playing pool, attending sports games, assisting in a yearly benefit held in honor of a fallen war hero and friend, and spending quality time with his devoted family and friends. He was a member of the Chicopee Sportsmens Club. Dave was an avid hunter and sharpshooter. He was also a Patriots, Bruins and Red Sox fan. David leaves behind his loving and devoted parents Robin “Bob” and Doria (Courchesne) Goshea; his sister, Wendy and her husband Alan Fournier of Chicopee; his brother Christopher and his wife Katie Goshea of Holyoke. He was most proud of his four nieces, Jessica, Meghan, Cassidy and Molly and his nephew C.J., all of whom he loved and cherished very much. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and faithful friends who continually stood by his side through his recent battle with cancer. David’s admirable strength, determination, honesty, loyalty and courage will continually live on in all those who knew and loved him. On behalf of David's family, a special thanks goes out to the Springfield Baystate Hospice Nurses for their care and support in these last few weeks. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee.
