Boston – Manuel D. Freitas, age 75 of New Bedford, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Maria L. (Nunes) Freitas and the son of Maria C (Dias) and Jose Machado Freitas. He was born in Corvo, Portugal, moved to this country in 1967 and worked for Dartmouth Finishing. Mr. Freitas enjoyed fishing and camping but most of all he loved to spend time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Maria, of New Bedford; 2 children: Steven Freitas and his wife, Grace, of New Bedford, and Goretti Rosonina and her husband, Joseph, of Georgia; a sister, Teresa Pimentel and her husband, Albert, of South Dartmouth; 7 grandchildren: Brandon, Nicole, Tyler, Ethan, Ben, Alec and McKenzie; as well as several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 27 beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will take place in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be in the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
