GLOUCESTER: Jennie M. (Demetri) Palazola, 98, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014, with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Frank S. “Chick” Palazola, who died in April of 2003. They had shared sixty-eight years of marriage.
Born in Boston on July 24, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Catherine (Sabella) Demetri.
Jennie was employed by Mighty Mac as a stitcher for many years. She had also worked for the former O’Donnell-Usen and ultimately for the Gloucester Public School System for twenty years as a cafeteria worker until her retirement.
Jennie enjoyed cooking for her family, shopping and knitting. She also hosted the St. Joseph’s Novena in her home for family and friends. Jennie and Chick enjoyed traveling to various destinations including California, Bermuda, Aruba, Hawaii and Italy.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Sandra (Curcuru) Palazola; her daughter, Judith F. Parisi, wife of the late Nicholas Parisi; six grandchildren, Cassandra, wife of Kevin Doyon, Krista, wife of Paul Russo, Julie, wife of Joseph Sanfilippo, Grace, wife of Sean Frost, Thomas, husband of Seema Parisi, and Jennifer Parisi; ten great-grandchildren, Paul and Michael Russo, Ryan and Noah Sanfilippo, Nathan Potter, Lacey D. Frost, Linsey and Kyle Doyon, Gia and Sophia Parisi; four sisters, Lucy, wife of the late James Bertolino, Virginia, wife of the late Charles Parisi, Lillian “Babe”, wife of Anthony Caciagli, Catherine “Katy, wife of Joseph Aiello; sister-in-law, Rose Demetri; and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Augustus Demetri, Frances Sinagra, Vita Santin, Josie Santuccio, Nofie Demetri, Gus Demetri, Fanny Panto and Salvatore Demetri.
Special thanks to Aunt Virginia and her grandchildren, Ariel and Hanna; Jennie’s godchild, Ann Grace Militello and niece, Kathy Santuccio for their love and support. They would also like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Pultar and the staff at Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation for all the love and care that was given to Jennie.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday morning in the Holy Family Parish, St. Ann Church at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to St. Vincent de Paul Society c/o Holy Family Parish, 60 Prospect St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery.
