EAST TAUNTON – Manuel M. da Silva, husband of Maria F. (Machado) da Silva, died at the Golden Living Center Wedgemere on May 20, 2014.
He was 87.
Born in Graciosa, Azores, he was the son of the late Joao M. and Virginia C. da Silva.
While living in Graciosa, Manny owned and operated a combination store and bar.
A veteran of the Portuguese Army, he moved to the Taunton area in 1985.
He was employed by Norwell Manufacturing for several years before retiring.
In his spare time, Manny enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He was a communicant of Holy Family Church.
In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Manuel L. da Silva of East Taunton and Marco da Silva of Pawtucket; four daughters, Adriana Wing of East Taunton and Virginia Rocha, Lucia Perreira and Margarida Pereira, all of Terceira, Azores; a brother, Jose Silva of San José, CA; two sisters, Fatima Coelho of Terceira and Zulmira Silva of Graciosa; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Carlos Silva.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Tuesday, May 27th at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Holy Family Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 26th from 4 to 7 p.m.
