Hugh W. Ellis, age 72, of Plymouth, passed away on May 20, 2014 after a brief illness. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He enjoyed making people laugh. A graduate of Brockton High School and Maryland Casualty Insurance School, his career took him to vacuum sales working his way from door to door Salesman to Division Management with Electrolux for 40 years and ten years as VP of Commercial Sales with Oreck. With his hard work ethic he fulfilled his goal of 50 yrs in sales. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed reading, cooking playing pool and playing whist and cribbage. He boasted about the perfect cribbage hand 29 dealt to him. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves, served on the board for his 50th BHS class reunion, and several committees in his Pine Hills neighborhood.
Born in Brockton, he was the son of the late Hugh and Shirley (Nagarya) Ellis. He was the beloved husband of Carole (Poliatti) Ellis of 48 yrs. and cherished father of Kevin Ellis of Highlands Ranch, CO, Jill Patrick of Littleton, CO, Todd Ellis of Sandwich, MA and Cara O’Donnell of Houlton, ME, eight loved grandchildren: Gavin Ellis, Nolan, Quinn, Amanda Patrick, Wyatt and Neve O’Donnell, and Jakob and Scarlett Ellis. In addition, he leaves two brothers Matthew and Lawrence Ellis and one sister Lavinia Mary all of Fl.
Waking hours are Tuesday, May 27th 4-8 pm at Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd (Rt 3A), Plymouth (Manomet). Funeral Mass is Wednesday, May 28th at 11:00 am at St. Bonaventure’s Church, 803 State Rd, Manomet. Burial will follow.
