New Bedford – Mary F. (Faria) Rapoza, age 91 of New Bedford, passed away, peacefully, on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Hathaway Manor. She was the widow of Augustus Rapoza and the daughter of the late Efegenia (Goncalves) and Antone G. Faria. She was born in New Bedford and was employed at Prudential Life Ins. Co. as an Office Clerk. After raising her sons, she worked at the Luzo Credit Union as a teller.
Mrs. Rapoza was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Luke’s Hospital and was a Graduate of the New Bedford High School class of 1941. She also graduated from the Kinyon Campbell School of Business.
She is survived by 2 sons: Paul A. Rapoza, MD and his wife, Kathy Hayden, MD, of Rochester New York: Peter A. Rapoza, MD and his wife, Astrid Rapoza, Dr. Med, of Boston, Ma.; 6 grandchildren Matthew, Rachael, Jared, Christopher, Rebecca and Cyrus; as well as several nieces, nephews grand nieces and grand nephews. She was the sister of the late James M. Faria.
Her funeral will be Saturday, May 24 beginning in the funeral home at 8:15 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church at 9:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home Friday evening from 4 – 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
