Obituary

GLOUCESTER – Daniel C. Juden Sr., 67, passed away peacefully in his Gloucester home surrounded by family and loved ones on May 19, 2014, after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was the husband of Diane E. (Mulcahey) Juden.
He was born in Waterbury, Comm., on October 29, 1946 and was the son of the late Frederick and Antoinette (Gauthier) Juden.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, he had a true passion for boats and being on the water. He spent many years with his family at the Gloucester Marina on their lobster boat, the Lady Diane, where he taught them how to fish and haul lobster pots, while passing his love for boats and the ocean on to his children.
After working at Air France for 15 dedicated years, he decided to follow one of his other passions in life and opened his own business, Dan’s Woodshop, on Essex Avenue in Gloucester. He was a remarkably skilled woodworker and had a love for designing and building custom furniture, tug boat rockers for kids, restoring damaged pieces into pristine condition and his true enjoyment could be seen in all finished products he created. He was a master craftsman that could create and build anything he could dream up along with anything that was presented to him.
He was a lifelong fan of the Montreal Canadiens and all things hockey. He was a coach for Cape Ann Youth Hockey and loved each one of his players as if they were his own children which could be seen by the lifelong relationships he formed with all of them and their families. Along with his players he also coached his children and instilled that same passion for the game in them. He will be remembered by so many who lovingly called him the “No. 1 Fan,” and will forever leave a void in the stands of countless rinks across New England.
His greatest passion in life was his family, and nothing was more important to him than his beloved wife and three children. “Big Dan’s” footprint is one that will be tough to fill, not only because of his large stature, but because of his huge heart and caring ways. He had a belly laugh and wonderful smile that were infectious and could light up a room. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife of 43 years, he leaves behind his daughter, Wendy A., wife of Peter Murrin; two sons, Daniel C. Juden, Jr., fiancée of Maria L. Ventimiglia of Gloucester, Jay, husband of Jennifer (Cioffi) Juden; his brother, Frederick Juden; niece, Lisa, wife of Mickey Doyle; nephew, Jeffrey Juden; in-laws, Jack, husband of Ann Mulcahey; nephew, Michael, husband of Paula Mulcahey; niece, Bridgette, wife of Neil Mathews; sister-in-law, Sharon, wife of Wayne Martin; niece Colleen Martin-Moceri, wife of Joseph Moceri; brother-in-law, Terry Souza and his partner Shirley Lynah of Davenport, Fla.; and many loving grandnieces and grandnephews. He was also predeceased by his sister-in-law, Regina Juden and niece Kimberly Ann Juden.
In keeping with his wishes, all are invited to join Dan’s friends and family at a celebration of his life which will be held on Saturday at 279 Essex Avenue, Gloucester from 12 to 6 p.m. There are no visiting hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102 Danvers, MA 01923.
