Gerald L. Owens, 63, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, November 8, 2004 at Coliseum Medical Center in Macon, Georgia.
Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Thursday, November 11, 2004, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery at Owensboro, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday.
Mr. Owens was born December 12, 1940, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Thomas Bryant Owens and Avis Lavell Richardson Owens. He attended Wilcox County High School, where he was an avid sportsman, playing football, basketball and baseball. Mr. Owens established Owens Paving Company. He attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Owens is survived by his wife: Betty Lou Clark Owens, Fitzgerald; 2 daughters and sons-in-law: Selinda and Ricky Holt of Fitzgerald and Dawn and Neal Smith of Fitzgerald; son: Brian Owens, Fitzgerald; 4 grandchildren; 2 brothers: Donald Owens and Frank Owens, both of Fitzgerald; 4 sisters: Glenda Peters, Fitzgerald; Gracie White, Cordele, GA; Eva Jo Jackson, Atlanta; Barbara Ann Bridges, Cordele. One brother, Wayne Owens, preceded him in death.
