James Terry Hintlian, of Winchester May 19, 2014. Beloved husband of Patricia “Patsy” (Noonan). Loving father of Michael J. and his wife Carolyn of Ipswich, Matthew J. and his wife Kathy of Frazier Park, CA, Mark J. and his wife Mary of Reading, Margot Block and her husband Ralph of South Boston, James Terry Jr. “Jamie” and his wife Carolyn of Winchester, Mary Ellen “Molly” Hintlian of Encinitas, CA and John Maximus Hintlian of Ipswich. Brother of Adeline Spivey of Rogers, AR. Dear grandfather of Michael J. Jr., Nicole, Nina, Hannah, Maura, Mark Jr., Julie, Alex, Michele, James T. III, Katherine M. and William. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Jim was a life-long resident of Winchester, where he graduated from St. Mary’s Elementary School and then from St. John’s Preparatory School, Danvers, with the class of 1942. He then joined the U.S. Navy, where he served during World War II. Upon discharge, he attended and graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Hintlian then joined the family business, Leavitt Corporation, which manufactures Teddie Peanut Butter. With great vision, he moved the business from Boston to its current location in Everett, and built a state-of-the art factory, leading the business to the success it is today. As an industry leader, Jim was also the past President of the Peanut and Tree Nut Processors Association where he worked to elevate the industry standards . He took great pride in the family atmosphere that was present in the Leavitt Corporation throughout his career. He was especially proud of working alongside his son Mark, who is now President of the company. In Winchester he was active in town affairs, and he served as a member of both Town Meeting and the Finance Committee. He was also a member of Winchester Country Club, serving as chairman of the men’s curling committee. A devoted family man, he loved spending summers in Rockport, where he was a member of the Sandy Bay Yacht Club and enjoyed sailing with his daughter Margot. Funeral from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Friday May 23 at 10AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church 155 Washington St., Winchester at 11AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8PM. Interment Wildwood Cemetery, Winchester.
