Kathleen W. (O'Brien) Mitchell, 86 of New Bedfor died March 24, 2002 at Savoy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was the wife of the late Sylvester A. Mitchell, and daughter of the late Joseph and Henrietta (Wallace) O'Brien.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, she was a graduate of Holy Family High School.
She was a lifelong communicant of St. James Church.
Mrs. Mitchell was formerly employed as a waitress at the Jolly Whaler at the New Bedford Hotel.
She was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the St. James Ladies Guild.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Sheila Washburn and her husband George of New Bedford, and Sister Maureen Mitchell, R.S.M. of Riverside, RI; 3 sons, David Mitchell and his wife Suzanne of Gloucester, MA, Daniel Mitchell and his wife Christine of Erie, PA, and Timothy Mitchell and his wife Mary of New Bedford; a sister, Margaret Donlan of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Everett O'Brien and his wife Gail, and Joseph O'Brien and his wife, Rita, all of New Bedford; 7 grandchildren, Fr. Thomas Washburn, O.F.M. of Derry, NH, Michael Washburn, Mary-Beth Washburn, Martha Mitchell, Daniel Mitchell, and Matthew Mitchell, all of New Bedford, and Casey Mitchell of Gloucester; 2 great-grandchildren, Kadie Washburn and Damien Gifford; and nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Lawrence Mitchell, and sister of the late Leonard O'Brien, Harold O'Brien, and Francis O'Brien.
