Obituary

Helen T. (Mahoney) Vaughan, 87, of Kingston, formerly of Whitman, died peacefully at Bay Path Nursing Center on Friday, May 16.

Mrs. Vaughan was born March 15, 1927 and raised in Franklin and Whitman to John Joseph and Helen (Wall) Mahoney. A graduate from Whitman High School in 1944, she went on to become a nurse by graduating from Newton-Wellesley Nursing School and received her bachelor’s in nursing from Boston University. She became the head nurse of the maternity ward at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and was active in the Visiting Nurses Association in Whitman. She met and married Sewall Vaughan and raised five children in Whitman, where she was beloved by the schools as a teacher’s assistant for many years.

Mrs. Vaughan was the wife of the late Sewall D. Vaughan of Whitman, the sister of the late Agnes Brennan and Ann Tonello, and the mother of the late Christopher Vaughan. She is survived by her children, Sharon Cronin and her husband Tom of Duxbury, Cindy Vaughan-Sanger and her husband Dennis of Westminster, Colo., James Vaughan and his wife Christi of Pacifica, Calif., and Peter Vaughan-Vail and his husband Matthew of San Mateo, Calif; a sister Florence Keras of Falmouth, and a brother Robert Mahoney and his wife Fran of Whitman. She also leaves nine grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Her services will be held Tuesday May 20 at 9:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 10 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will be private. Visiting hours will be held Monday May 19 from 4-8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472 (alz.org).
