Obituary

Mary A. (Giobellina) Goretti, 85, of Paxton, died Wednesday, May 14th at home surrounded by her family. Her husband of 25 years, Raymond P. Goretti died in 1979. She leaves three sons, Michael F. Goretti of Fitchburg, Mark J. Goretti of Millbury and Christopher R. Goretti of Worcester; two daughters, Paula M. Dumas and her husband, Jack of Worcester and Maria A. Goretti of Manhattan, NY; ten grandchildren, Katie, Francis, Nicholas and Maria Gaffney, Theresa, Anthony and Michael Goretti, and Zachary, Benjamin and Samuel Dumas; a great-grandson, Daymon Gaffney and many nephews and nieces. Her daughter, Dianne M. Williams; two brothers, Joseph and Ermenegildo Giobellina; and sister, Catherine Giobellina predeceased her.
She was born in West Boylston, the daughter of Fortunato and Angela (Viano) Giobellina. Mrs. Goretti was a graduate of West Boylston, High School, Clark University and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Worcester State. After graduating From Clark, Mary worked for two years as a teacher for the City of Worcester; upon marrying Raymond she then joined him in his business, Valley Market in Leicester. Upon his death in 1979 she then became president of Goretti Supermarkets. While at Clark University she had co-captained the Women’s Basketball Team; her love of sports continued as a lifelong interest. She enjoyed cooking, skiing and remained active throughout her life, playing tennis until she was 82. Mary had served on the Board of Director’s for Girl’s Inc. and was a member of St. Columba Parish.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, May 17th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. Columba Church, 18 Richards Avenue, Paxton. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours are Friday, May 16th from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
