HOLDEN: Jane E. (Robertson) Glass, 67, died at home on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, after a siege with bladder cancer. She regrettably leaves her true love and best friend, Robert F. Troy, whom she married 21 years ago on Christmas Eve; her stepdaughter, Tammy Troy Shepard, her husband Mark and daughter Mackenzie, all of Boylston; and her stepson, Matthew Troy of Worcester. She grew up in Beverly Cove, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Donald and Estelle (Jones) Robertson. She earned a BA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1976. She was then awarded a four-year Regents Intern Fellowship to study sociology at UCLA, where she achieved a MA and ABD.
Jane worked in the social service field most of her adult life in the Los Angeles and Worcester areas. She was an administrator and coordinator for several youth programs, a grants writer for social service agencies, and served as a social worker for elders. She loved to write novels and spent many hours on this work. She enjoyed reading and rereading the great books, holding a special place for John Updike and Jane Austen. She loved classical music, especially opera, and enjoyed many trips to the MET in New York. Her true happiness came from her marriage to her husband, Robert. Together they shared wonderful adventures to several Caribbean islands and Mexico. They enjoyed the beaches and mountains of New England. They loved every moment at their lovely home in Holden where they kept gardens and watched the wild things that wandered into their yard on the edge of the dense woods. This was the place of her greatest happiness.
There are no calling hours. After cremation, burial will be at the convenience of the family.
