Obituary

Doris Veal King, 75, of Tifton died Monday, May 12, 2014, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Chula. Rev. Randall Gay and Rev. Jack Perrin will officiate with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Jim Holman, Wally Veal, Justin Pitts, Jackson Pitts, Gary Veal and Patrick Nicholson will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present deacons of Macedonia Baptist Church in Chula, the Macedonia Baptist Church Choir, the Ladies Auxiliary of Macedonia Baptist Church, Marian Perrin, Shaun McBrayer, Denny McBrayer, Myrna Jean Wiggins, Kathy Peacock and Kayla Peacock. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. King will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. King was born on April 17, 1939 in Turner County and was the daughter of Chesley Davis Veal and Rusia Childs Veal, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by one sister and brother-in-law, Sarah Ann and Donald Holman; one brother, Edwin Veal; and a sister-in-law, Ethel Veal. She graduated from Tifton High School in 1957 and was a retired receptionist at Parker Insurance, Kanebo Spinning, and Ameris Bank. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Chula, where she served as the song leader. She loved taking care of her grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Nana”. She was also very devoted to her husband, children and extended family and loved attending family get-togethers.

Mrs. King is survived by her husband, Billy G. King of Tifton; one daughter and son-in-law, Kelli and Ryner Patrick and their children, Justin Pitts, Jackson Pitts, Maggi Patrick and Bryer Patrick, of Brookfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Kasey and April King and their son, Kason King, of Moultrie; two brothers and a sister-in-law, C. D. Veal, Jr. of Virginia and Jerry and Helen Veal of Norman Park; a sister-in-law, Yvonne Veal of Tifton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, 239 Macedonia Church Road, Chula, GA 31733.
