Mary M. (Steedman) Daly 88 of Salem, passed away peacefully at home with her family and her devoted cat by her side on Sunday, May 4, 2014 following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of the late Roland J Daly.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Nellie (Thompkins) Steedman. Prior to marrying Roland in 1950, Mary was employed by Sylvania. After their marriage Mary and Roland owned and operated the former Park Way Cleaners of Salem. With the closing of the business, Mary went on to work for Metcom, Shetland Industries and for Salem Hospital until her retirement in the 1990’s.
After her retirement, She volunteered and later worked for the Peabody Council on Aging until 2012 when she formally retired at age 86, as the oldest employee of the City of Peabody.
Mary was involved in a number of organizations including the Women’s Friend Society, Naumkeag Associates, White Shrine of Jerusalem and Salem Chapter of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron. Mary loved to travel with her husband and later with her sister Priscilla.
She is survived by her son, Donald R. Daly and his wife Rachel of Salem and a sister, Priscilla Bolduc and her husband Vincent of Beverly, her brothers-in-law Ernest Daly and his wife Rose of Salem, Roger Daly and his wife Phyllis of Townsend as well as nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and devoted friends. She is predeceased by her sister Eleanor McDonald of Salem and her brother Lester Steedman of East Brookfield.
A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church, 188 Elliott St. [Rt. 62] Danvers at 10:00 A.M. Burial services will be private. In lieu of floweres, memorial contributions may be made to Care Dimensions (formerly Hospice of the North Shore, or the Peabody Council on Aging.
