Marguerite H. Girard, 80, of Harrisville, formerly of Park Ave. Woonsocket died Wednesday evening at The Friendly Home in Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late Paul E. Girard. They were married on February 12, 1955 and spent 57 years together until his passing in 2013.
Born in Bellingham she was a daughter of the late Eli and Bernadette (Champagne) Poirier. She was a resident of Woonsocket for most of her life before moving to Harrisville several years ago.
Mrs. Girard was employed at Mark Stevens Inc. and Bancroft Corp.
Marguerite enjoyed bowling and participating in activities with several local senior citizens groups. She was a loving wife and mother and cherished being a grandmother.
She is survived by a daughter Paula J. Gervais and her husband, Richard, of Pascoag and two grandchildren Bethany and Nicholas Gervais both of Pascoag. She was the sister of Albert Poirier of Pennsylvania and Sr. Theresa Poirier (Sisters of Ste. Jeanne D’Arc, S.J.A.) of P. Q., Canada and the late Maurice and Francis Poirier. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10:00 am in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Park Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association – RI Chapter 245 Waterman St., Suite 306, Providence, RI. 02906.
